6) Connect Branches
ChemProject fully supports convergent syntheses, including split exports, i.e. exports of a side branch final product to multiple locations within the synthesis.
Convergent synthesis without (left) and with split exports (right)
Below are the steps required to connect two branches:
- Once the entry of side branches is completed, the synthesis tree might look like in the example below. Here, the branches "Wittig Salt" and "Activated Ester" have been added to the main branch, but are not yet connected to the synthesis.
- While entering the main branch materials, you already may have specified materials which will be imported from another branch, as part of the required step materials. No source and price specifications are required here. Now select the desired material to be connected to its parent side branch:
- When the desired material is selected, click the Imported From dropdown menu in the material details section, to the right of the materials table: A list of available side branches appears. So far unconnected branches are shown in bold font, already connected ones in normal font. Then select the side branch your material is originating from, e.g. the "Wittig Salt" side branch in our example.
- This connects the side branch with your synthesis. In the materials table, the source description now contains the parent branch name, while the price assignments are disabled since the material costs already were specified within the parent branch.
